Play with Me Sesame extends Sesame Street's time-tested educational mission through opportunities for active learning. Each episode mixes classic Sesame Street footage with newly created games and activities where the Muppets invite children to join in. Play with Me Sesame, a half-hour interactive series, brings children on a playdate with some of their favorite Sesame Street characters: Bert, Ernie, Grover and Prairie Dawn. The series would later move to PBS Kids Sprout (later known as simply Sprout and then Universal Kids) three weeks later on September 26, 2007, with some differences from the Noggin version. However, the series left Noggin after Septemafter Nickelodeon lost the rights to air the series. When Sesame Workshop sold their 50% stake in Noggin to Nickelodeon in August 2002, both companies stated that the series would continue to air on Noggin until 2009. Play with Me Sesame premiered on Apand ran for three seasons. ![]() The series was in development since 1999, and Nickelodeon had to gain permission from The Jim Henson Company, who owned the Sesame Street Muppets at the time, to start production on the series, which made Nickelodeon the first state-wide company other than Sesame Workshop to gain permission to use the Sesame Street Muppets. ![]() It was created and co-produced by Sesame Workshop and Nickelodeon for their former joint venture, Noggin. The last new episode aired on September 2, 2007.Play with Me Sesame is an educational live-action series that is a spin-off of Sesame Street. At its launch, it was announced that Play with Me Sesame would continue to be produced for Noggin through 2009, but the show instead wrapped in 2007. Noggin also launched a live show, called Noggin's Play with Me Sesame Mall Tour, across the United States. Nickelodeon extensively promoted the show across all of their networks, using a musical infomercial sung by Grover. The show was heavily linked with Noggin's website,, and it featured a regular segment where computer games from Noggin were played. Many of the background designs in Play with Me Sesame were simultaneously used in Nickelodeon's Moose and Zee interstitials. Kidscreen reported that "the series marks the first time a State-side entity other than Sesame Workshop has been given permission by Henson to use the Sesame Street Muppets." Noggin shot footage of the characters on a green screen, and animators at Nick Digital added in new graphics. To start production, Nickelodeon had to seek approval from Henson. The show began development in 1999, when the Jim Henson Company still co-owned the rights to the Sesame characters. ![]() To do this, they combined classic Sesame Street footage with new segments, where the hosts invite preschoolers to join them in games. It is a spin-off of Sesame Street hosted by Ernie, Bert, Prairie Dawn, and Grover.
