Cabin fever 2002 movie songs8/3/2023 This will arrive in the form of a flesh-eating virus (as Roth insists in the press notes and in interviews, the phenomenon is for real, and really grisly), carried by character the credits call a “hermit” (Arie Verveen), who staggers toward them in search of assistance. And here the film follows in the footsteps of intelligent social commentary films, say, Night of the Living Dead, revealing that trauma can also make people mean and afraid and selfish - wholly unable to empathize with fellow victims.īy the time they’re inviting a young stranger into their group because he pulls out a huge bag of weed, it’s clear that these kids are standard horror movie dupes, awaiting some sort of moral comeuppance whose fury they cannot even imagine. (Apparently, this performance is a big hit with the many viewers who see this film as the next “revolution” in horror: the same trick repeatedly elicits snickers and oohs.) While the Deliverance (1972) allusion is plain, the five travelers don’t pick up on it, Bert going so far as to steal a Snickers bar from the store and thus earn the abiding antipathy of store owner Old Man Caldwell (Robert Harris).Īt the cabin, the kids engage in the usual “bad behaviors” - they sit by the campfire drinking and expressing (overtly or not) their sexual desires, and trade “trauma” stories in an effort to build community this despite the admonition from Paul that “Trauma bonds people who go through it, not people you tell it to.” Little do they know the trauma they will endure, and the complete disintegration it will wreak on their group. In the few minutes before they arrive at their appointed place, the kids reveal their definitive (and reductive) attributes: Paul (Rider Strong) is a virgin, angling to get with the self-confident Karen (Jordan Ladd, mothered by Cheryl), his childhood friend beautiful couple Jeff (Joey Kern) and Marcy (Cerina Vincent) are destined to suffer consequences for their sexual expertise and Bert (James DeBello) is the simple-minded, beer-loving frat boy.įirst sign that trouble’s in store arises at the gas station/convenience store where they stop for supplies: perched outside is a seemingly inbred-androgynous boy named Dennis (Matthew Helms), who yells, “Pancakes!” and leaps from the porch (in slow motion) to bite folks who happen by. The film begins as its title dictates: five young people begin a vacation at a remote cabin (this one happens to be in rural North Carolina). While many horror flicks presume audience knowledge of the genre (“I suppose I do seem a bit sinister for a doctor,” or “Never say, ‘I’ll be right back!'”), this one lays out nearly all events as if they need explaining. What’s missing, strange to say, is subtlety. Such evocations are smug, which is, in its way, appropriate: irreverence is the name of this game. ![]() Cabin Fever knows its sources and runs through a seeming check list of classic and classically subversive horror movie elements, from the terrible place ( The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Evil Dead ) and fast-spreading, violently wasting disease ( Night of the Living Dead ) to the feisty adolescent protagonists ( Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street ) and gruesome death scenes (take your pick). That’s not to say that the usual pieces aren’t in place. But even if Jackson calls it “Bloody, and I do mean bloody, fantastic!”, Cabin Fever is neither so innovative nor clever about its borrowings as such quoted adulation might suggest. Eli Roth’s first feature comes bearing a blurby rave from none other than Peter Jackson, who knows a thing or two about freaky gross-out horror.

Homefront 20138/2/2023 Just as Sharon Stone was all wrong for the shallow, street smart gold digger in " Casino," Ryder often seems on the verge of laughing in Franco’s face as he attempts to manhandle and pimp-talk her. Even styled to look like a skanky barfly, Ryder is too bright behind the eyes to pass as anybody’s fool. Winona Ryder returns to the screen to play one of the parasites, as Franco’s "meth whore" and liaison to a psycho biker gang. Franco would have been a six-second Vine.) To avoid spoilers, let’s just say that "Homefront" is more interested in how cowards and bullies thrive on manipulating each other, and how a strong, decent man like Broker can find himself a victim of their parasitic politics. The trailer seems to promise a showdown between Broker and drug-dealing villain Gator Bodine (or "Gaturr Bow-dine," as James Franco introduces himself), but the film delivers something a lot more tangled and interesting. In a movie where every shove, kick and door slam sounds like ten cannons, this patch of humanity is a small victory. The most exciting shots in the movie are subtle glances between Broker and Maddy, communicating in a shorthand that only two people who’ve suffered and survived a colossal loss together could decode. Statham’s discomfort at having to extend the olive branch when he’d rather jam it in the other guy’s windpipe is the film's most suspenseful stunt.įleder also draws a moving and believable father-daughter relationship from the story’s widower-dad cliche. It’s the psychology that counts: We’ve all been there, tested and prodded constantly by some unreasonable, relentless fool who won’t recognize sincere attempts at peacemaking. When Statham puts the poor guy down on the blacktop, a whole gang of greasy losers come looking for trouble.įleder, who is a pretty standard button-masher as an action director, actually shows infectious relish and nuance in depicting Statham’s slow return to his violent ways. When Maddy takes down a schoolyard bully, his mother ( Kate Bosworth), tweaking on meth, pushes her weakling husband (Marcus Hester) to seek revenge. ![]() ![]() We wait patiently for the local redneck meth-heads to start messing with him, as promised in the movie's trailer. When the smoke clears, Phil Broker (Statham) is retired, sick of the narc's double-life, and off to a tiny Louisiana town to start fresh with his tween daughter Maddy ( Izabela Vidovic).

Tequila simple margarita recipe8/2/2023 ![]() I don't have a cocktail tumbler so I just add everything directly into my margarita glass.īefore you start adding your spirits to the glass, add the salt to the rim. You can use a cocktail tumbler to mix all your ingredients before pouring it into the margarita glass, or just pour everything directly in the cocktail glass. It's the fresh juice that makes a margarita delicious. You should always use freshly squeezed lime juice and not store-bought variations. The most important part of the margarita is lime juice. Tip: if you want a skinny margarita, make it without the orange liqueur (and without agave syrup if normally using). The salt around the rim of the glass will bring out the true taste of all ingredients in the cocktail. I personally prefer key limes as they are slightly tartier. Sadly, here in Germany, we cannot be picky so we can only buy what's available in the supermarket at that given time. ![]() You can use Persian limes or key limes from Mexico. It's also what we drink if we have tequila shots.įreshly squeezed lime juice is the key ingredient in any margarita recipe. It's also much cheaper.įor tequila, I use Mexican silver tequila from Sierra. You can use Cointreau as an orange liqueur or triple sec. I find it more delicious and better tasting. I personally like it a little juicer, so I like to add 1 part freshly squeezed lime juice. While there are many variations of margarita recipes, the original margarita recipe calls for 1 part silver tequila, 1/2 part orange liqueur and 1/2 part freshly squeezed lime juice. ![]() The first known publication of a margarita recipe was in the December 1953 issue of Esquire, with a recipe calling for an ounce of tequila, a dash of triple sec and the juice of half a lime or lemon. But we do know for sure that these exquisite drinks has been made following the same recipes for almost a century. There are other claims which suggest that margarita was invented by an American socialite with the same name "Margarita Sames" while one Jose Cuervo suggests that margarita cocktail was invented in 1938 by a bartender in honour of Mexican showgirl.Īs with many classic drink recipes, nobody really knows for sure who invented the authentic margarita. There is a 1937 cocktail book which contains a recipe which has the same ingredients and concentrations as the classic margarita. Historian David Wondrich states that margarita is a variation of a popular cocktail called "the Daisy" but made with tequila instead of brandy as the original recipe called for. Some suggest that it was first mixed in Juárez in 1942 by one Francisco "Pancho" Morales. There are several claims about the origins of margarita. It's ok to serve a margarita in a variety of glasses, but traditionally, the authentic margarita is served in the eponymous margarita glass. But you are more than welcome to add ice to the drink, it's perfectly cool (no pun intended). As I don't particularly want the margarita to be diluted (I love it very sour), I love chilling the glass before pouring the ingredients in it. The drink is served either shaken with ice, blended with ice (called frozen margarita) or directly on the rocks. Here's the story of the margarita recipe.Ī margarita is a cocktail consisting of tequila, orange liqueur, and lime juice often served with salt on the rim of the glass. They are perfect during the summer months or during dinner parties. But margaritas are best when made at home. It's a brilliant conversation starter and usually one of the more affordable cocktails on the menu. Margarita is a fantastic social cocktail which can be served on its own or in a pitcher. I couldn't wait to grow up and learn all about margaritas and how to make my own cocktail. ![]() The first time I've ever heard of margarita was during the movie Practical Magic with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. Are you after an authentic margarita recipe? You came to the right place.

It works for both internal home design as well as external yard planning, and it’s usable across both Mac and PC. The 3D view updates in real time as you change things in 2D, it's really easy to create even fairly complex structures and you can import photos to make things look more realistic. It's not the prettiest app but it's pretty good. That latter one is the same app but it comes with a much bigger library of objects (1,400 compared to the free one's 100) that you can drag and drop into your creation. There's the free download, and a paid-for version that costs around $13. You wouldn't want to use it to design a skyscraper, but it's brilliant for small projects such as studio apartments and simple outbuildings.
